DON’T WRITE MORE CONTENT, PROMOTE WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN MORE

When you finally write an article or blog post (lets call it content from here on) you have taken the time to write about something that you believe your potential customers are interested in. Then why would you spend more time on writing more content? Why not spend time on sharing the content you have just written and getting it read by more people. Its much smarter to find another 10,000 people to consume what you have already created as apposed to creating more. You have taken the time two write something that you care about, wouldn’t you want as many people as possible to benefit from it?

YOUR MESSAGE

Create your message. This has to be memorable and easy for people to repeat. What is it that you want to be known for?

  1. What do your followers want more of?
  2. What is the problem that you solve for them?
  3. What is your method for solving their problem?
  4. What do you love to talk about more than anything?

E.g. for me it’s:

  1. More time and more money
  2. Not getting all the important things done + trying to do it all themselves
  3. By teaching people how to get shit done via outsourcing, systemising and managing their time
  4. I love helping small businesses to succeed

Make sure that no one else is known for the same thing otherwise you will be competing and it is better to find your own unique niche than waste energy competing with someone elses. This has got to be something that is easy for people to remember!!

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

Know your audience! Talk their language. Talk about topics that are important to them, not you! Chose the type of people who are already following you that you want more of and go market to them! Find people or groups of people who can benefit from your content and reach out to those people specifically.

How to learn about your audience…ask! Have your subscribers fill in a survey or better still (because most people lie on a survey) have them share their story or answer a question that is more conversational and you will learn more about their interests, career, family.

ASK A QUESTION TO GET FEEDBACK & COMMENTS

At the end of your blog, request that your readers leave a comment about an issue they have been having that is relevant to what the article is about. E.g. if you are writing about gardening, ask your readers to leave a comment as to the biggest challenge they have had to do with weeds and how did they solve it? Or what is the biggest challenge you have with your garden? But make sure that you take the time to respond to what your readers comment about!! You MUST respond to their comments or you will commit blogging suicide if you don’t! By answering their concerns personally you will build customer loyalty and satisfaction because everyone loves to have personal attention and feel special and that you care. This in turn will create higher conversion, click through referral rates.

Some question starters you could use are: “What’s been holding you back from…”, “What’s are you struggling with…”, “What is the biggest challenge you have around XYZ”. But the best way to do it is to create your own question that is relevant to your industry.

HOW TO GET TRAFFIC TO YOUR BLOG

Find people who are already covering similar topics and offer them an incentive (either economic, social or moral) to share their readers with you but make sure that what you are asking them to promote is actually news worthy otherwise you will lose credibility very fast. And don’t ever make the person feel cheap. I.e. I’ll send you x if you give me y

HOW TO GET TRAFFIC FROM YOUR BLOG TO YOUR OTHER MEDIUMS

When writing content, it is valuable to relate back to other content that you have written previously so provide links to other mediums and content that you have created previously. E.g. other blogs, your video channel, your podcast in iTunes.
