Web Design FAQ's
After we conduct an in-depth evaluation of you, your business, your ideal clients, your marketing strategies, your current and future online presence and what you like and want in your new website together with defining your specific products or services and offering and creating the ideal sales funnel for your business we can then go away and design the perfect website for you.
This can take some time because Blue Dog has a unique way of creating websites unlike other website companies called the “See Before You Buy” website. We are so confident that we can create the perfect website for you that we will design AND build your site before you have even said yes. This takes all the risk out of the decision-making process for you and you get to see that we really do “get you” before committing to the project.
Once Blue Dog has designed and built your site and you see it and fall in love with it, you can have two sets of changes to the design and a further two sets of changes to the content before the site will be ready to go live.
Although Blue Dog is intent on you absolutely loving your site we do set a limit to the number of changes to ensure that our clients don’t get stuck with the “perfection syndrome” where they continue to make changes again and again and again and never get their site live. Which then affects their business.
As part of the initial client contract Blue Dog Digital Marketing creates with you the client an agreed timeline for the design, build and go live process of the website. The length of this timeline depends on what the client requires in their website as some programming takes longer than others plus how efficient the client is at providing the necessary content to Blue Dog. With this in mind, we have built websites that took less than a week and some that took months.
To ensure that the website project timeline doesn’t ‘blow out’ there are deadlines in place and processes to ensure that it keeps moving forward and gets completed within a reasonable time.
Once your website goes live you firstly celebrate! You and your web designer will have put in a lot of effort and long hours to get it to that point so be sure to celebrate.
Then you will need to roll up your sleeves and get busy. A website sitting by itself doing nothing will not create sales in your business. You need to drive traffic to your website and use it as a conversion platform to convert interested people into leads and then into sales.
Here at Blue Dog Digital Marketing we don’t leave you once your site is live, we actually partner with you to guide you through the rest of your digital journey. Teaching you ways to create traffic to your site, providing you with tools to get more sales and supporting you and your business to be successful. For us and for you, your website really is just the beginning. Our “Go Live and Thrive” program is designed to provide you with everything you need to maximize the return on your website and digital marketing investment.
A lot of work goes into the design and build of your website and we often get asked by clients who owns the actual website. Some web designers are a little attached to their work and will tell you that they own it but for us, you are the owner of the entire project once it has been completed. After all, you have paid for us to build your site for you.
So, once you have paid for your site in full and as long as all monies has been paid and are up to date then the intellectual property is transferred to you at the completion of the website and you will always retain complete ownership of the designs, artwork, logos, data, files, content and every part of your site.
At Blue Dog Digital Marketing we don’t like surprises, especially if they cost us money and we figure that our clients feel the same way so we create a very clear document that outlines exactly what is going to be in your website and this becomes our Client Contract. Included in this is also a Scope of Work that outlines the work involved by both parties to create your new website and a timeline with deadlines so you know how long it will take. All of these documents provide the peace of mind for both us and our clients that there will be no hidden surprise costs.
Of course there are sometimes additions that the client may request half way through a project where they may have a new product or addition to their business and this then gets quoted and added to the Client Contract, Scope of Work and Timeline.
Once your website goes live you will have an ongoing cost of hosting your site which we have included in our Service Packages but this is a standard requirement for any website as your site needs to be sitting on a server somewhere in order for it to be seen on the web. Please go to our Service Package page here for more information on this
One of the things that you can do to be seen favourably by Google is to be constantly updating and adding to your website so we here at Blue Dog encourage you to make changes to your site on a regular basis. You can either do these yourself (access provided) or have one of our team make those changes for you. This just depends on how valuable your time is (an expert is always quicker) and how experienced you are with website back ends. Have a look at our Service Packages here and you will see there are options for us to do it for you which most people choose because it’s a bit like being in a china shop… you break it, you are going to have to pay to get it fixed.
Currently a manual or training on how to make changes to your website is not provided as part of the website because not all of our clients want to do that. Most of our clients prefer to have us manage that for them so that they can focus on their business. For those few who do want to make changes to their website themselves we can provide a training manual (additional cost) on the basics such as how to change headings, text, add an image and add a blog post or new product but to learn how to build websites will take a lot more than that.
Themes and templates are used by some of the best web designers in the world however some websites just don’t fit with a theme. For us, we found that working with themes only caused more headaches when it came to customisation and support.
Often the theme would limit what we could do with the design and if we found a glitch with the theme, especially after the site went live, months down the track, their wasn't always support still available.
So we decided it wasn't worth the headaches anymore and now we build websites from the ground up to what is needed for the client.
Web Hosting FAQ's
Hosting is something that every website must have or it can't exist. If you think of your website like it being a shop, hosting is like paying rent to the landlord so that you can have your shop on his block of land.
So basically, hosting is what you pay to have space on a server (your block of land) so that your website can exist in the world wide web. There are literally hundreds, probably thousands of companies that can provide hosting throughout the world but take a look at “what should be included in hosting” and “how do I choose a hosting company” to see what you need to look out for.
There are so many companies out there providing hosting for websites and they can range from as a few dollars per month to hundreds of dollars.
What you need to be careful of is to not go for the cheapest options without knowing what you are getting yourself into. The old saying of make sure that you are comparing apples with apples because not all hosting companies are the same.
Here at Blue Dog Digital Marketing we have included the hosting costs in our Service Packages so that our clients get everything they need to have a safe and secure hosting option. Take a look at the question “what should be included in hosting” to see what we mean.
Some companies just provide the bare basics in hosting which is to provide a server for your website to sit on. That’s ok, but how secure is that server is one question you need to ask. If you are choosing your own hosting option be sure to go with a large and reputable company that can provide the security on your server, the speed and the guaranteed minimal downtime (time your website might be down).
There are also a lot of companies who also provide back ups of your website as part of their hosting packages but be sure to check that they back up your website AND your data and ask them how regularly they do this.
As part of the basic Blue Dog Service Package we provide hosting on a secure server that has an A+ rating, plus regular backups of your website data. We also include software updates to ensure that the software and plugins that have created your website remain up to date and consequently secure from the possibility of hackers.
The best way to choose a hosting company is to ensure that their hosting covers all of the points covered in the “what should be included in hosting” – hosting on a secure server, software updates and backups of your website and data.
Most people prefer to have their website hosted with the company that built it to minimize the number of people that they need to communicate with and keep it all together in the one place but if you do want to have a separate hosting company then shop around with these things in mind.
We won't tie you down to stay with us but we intend to provide you with so much value that you won't want to go anywhere else. Besides the A+ hosting, backups, software & plugin updates and very reasonably priced support after your site goes live then you can also gain the maximum benefit of the Blue Dog Digital Marketing follow on marketing program.
Hence, most people do stick with Blue Dog because we understand the importance your website plays in your business and we are dedicated to ensuring that your business stays online and that you receive quality support plus we relish in the opportunity to guide people through the complex online marketing options to create a strategic plan that works for you and your business.
Yes, all hosting that Blue Dog Digital Marketing provides can only be used for lawful purposes and as a client you agree to abide by the terms and conditions set out by the website host. For a full copy of these terms and conditions please ask us and we will happily provide it for you.
We have partnered with premium web hosting companies who are committed to providing the best operating platform for your website. In order to maintain the security level of our servers Blue Dog Digital Marketing don’t provide access to our servers for our clients, their employees or associates. Anything that you may require from the server is available through our technical department and can be supplied as a service from Blue Dog Support System at a very reasonable rate.
